PEN American Center has announced the first event for the 2008 Pen World Voices Festival. The event includes Umberto Eco from Italy, British-Indian Salman Rushdie, and Mario Vargas Llosa from Peru and is dubbed “The Three Musketeers Reunited” (because the three held a reading together in 1995 and “At dinner afterwards, Eco anointed the trio as…”). While this event might not be as exciting as, say, a Friday Night in San Francisco it about as heavyweight as they come.
The festival will be held at venues around New York City from April 29th to May 4th. The theme this year is “Public Lives/Private Lives.” As you know, I’m a big fan of the Pen World Voices Festival (see our group’s posts at MetaxuCafé) and hope to be a part again this year for the third in a row, so look for more updates as we get them.
