Edwin Williamson, Oxford professor and Cervantes expert has written a new study of the life of Borges. According to the Penguin, the book’s publisher, Williamson introduces new information on the early life of Borges and digs into his “human” side.
I’ve naturally not read this book because it’s only being released tomorrow and I’m not on the short list (or the long list) of those that get advance copies. But I have read the Penguin History of Latin America (at least as much as was required in my Latam economics course in grad school), also by Williamson. Not really the same thing though, so there’s no conclusion to be drawn other than the author has spent a lot of time thinking about and studying the region. I can only guess for now, but this seems like a must-have for the Borges fan.
Mumpsimus points the way to a Boston Globe Review where Julio Ortega says that “Borges” is a “a wonderful biography with a point.”
