Discuss McSweeney’s Stories

by Bud Parr

From the Website, Pettifog:

In my last letter to you, I announced that Pettifog.net had partnered with the renowned McSweeney’s Publishing of San Francisco and had secured the rights to distribute some of their authors’ works to our membership. We are pleased to announce that the day has come, and two stories from Issue 18 of McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern are available for you to download at www.Pettifog.net. We are eager to launch the discussion – the forums are in place and waiting for you!

We have selected two excellent stories from Issue 18 and are waiting for author permissions in order to offer you a third story soon. Chris Adrian’s The Stepfather takes a darkly humorous, and a rather Salinger-esque, look at the relationships amongst a family of stepchildren, their fickle mother, and the comings and goings of their several stepfathers.

Yannick Murphy’s In a Bear’s Eye is a snapshot of a young widow’s emotional and physical struggle to survive in a world she perceives as harsh and threatening in the absence of her husband.

We will be the first group to publish writings about these fine works by these emerging authors. Please join us in discussing these pieces. Your participation ensures that McSweeney’s will continue this exclusive relationship with us. It also opens the door to new agreements with other alternative publishers.

Enjoy these stories and, as always, thank you for your contributions.
