I know that William T. Vollmann walks on water over at the home of Bat Segundo, so this interview must be a real coup. Definitely worth a listen.
My favorite bit:
Q: Are you done throwing yourself into war zones or freezing in the arctic?
Vollmann: I hope not!
After answering that question, Vollmann goes into some things he’s working on for this year (that, I might add, most people might take a lifetime to accomplish). The interview sounds like it takes place in a diner, which seems completely like an appropriate background. Martha even stops in for a compliment and it ends up with what sounds like some Shostokovich. Well done, Senor Segundo.

The interview took place at Cafe Espresso in Union Square, the same place I talked with Octavia Butler. Vollmann, I should point out, was fired up on a double espresso and I was his first interview of the day. Martha was actually the publicity escort who had to drag Vollmann away to another interview and who sat down with us for the final three minutes of the interview. But yes, a real coup indeed. I lost track of the number of publicists I talked with to get this to happen.

Oh and one other thing: thanks for listening! I’m surprised you listened so quick!

Ed, you must be kidding. I’m a Bat Segundo fan from the early days.
