A small thing I spotted at Barnes & Noble: Signed copies of Leaves of Grass; large emblems across the front with the words “autographed copy.” What’s more, they were brand new editions, meaning that B&N had to really convince Whitman that it would be worth it, for the 150th anniversary, to come out from his crypt in Camden, New Jersey to sign the things. I didn’t look too closely at them because it was creepy and I resisted the temptation to buy up all the copies, thinking it might be a hoax, but I’m on the look out for autographed copies of Elvis’ memoir, The Once and Future King, Baby.
