I Arrange My Books By the Color of…

However, some people arrange their books by the color of the spines. Tom Dolby is one, and as Rob Giampietro points out in a terrific blog post at Design Observer, many visually inclined people do too:


Our bookshelves often take up a good deal of space in the places we live and work, and organizing them by color transforms them from a banal backdrop into a poppy, rainbow-colored focal point. Books organized by color are cool to look at.

Cool to look at yes—and I’ve often admired bookshelves arranged in this way. But, my word, how on earth do you find the book you’re looking for?

I probably should have quoted better from the article because he did go into more than the coolness factor, but you’re right - however, I do admit I like to put my nicer looking books in a more visually prominent place.
