Chekhov's Mistress

“It is one thing to undertake but another to finish”

by Bud Parr

Welcome to 400 Windmills. This site is dedicated to a reading and discussion of “Don Quixote.”

400 Windmills Signifies the 400th anniversary of “Don Quixote” and the windmills that have become a permanent image of the novel. We anticipate starting the book by early to mid-April. Please drop a comment on this post if you are interested in contributing as an author of this site. Doing so requires no prior knowledge of the “Quixote,” just a willingness to read the novel with an eye toward actively commenting on the site in order to provoke discussion. Commentary on any of the critical studies or reader’s guides would be interesting too.

The categories of this site are as follows:

  • Cervantes – biographical information
  • Criticism & Translation- literary criticism and translation
  • Don Quixote – reading thoughts and commentary (probably the primary category)
  • Events – readings and talks
  • Influences – sources of influence on Cervantes or authors that he has influenced
  • Resources & Articles – links to helpful material on the web
  • The 400 Windmills Site – stuff like this post

Good luck to all of you. I’ve read the Quixote twice but I think I’ll not committ myself to this reading. I fear I’ll go the same way as the Gaddis reading and get distracted.

I have to say that I find it unfortunate that the windmills are so prevalent as a symbol of the book. It is a very small scene. Somehow it must have been established as a symbol through someone’s writing or art…

Bravo, don’t let Gaddis stand in the way of a good stoush ( Australian for tilting at windmills).

Does this mean we are burying Bill? looks like the party is over, doesn’t it. Just as well - going backwards through TRex was getting very confusing.

I wonder if I’ll finish DQ ( quietly in the background this time). I have a copy with pictures. Distracting.
