I’ve been asleep at the wheel the past week while working on getting a new site up for my new endeavor. While the site is not totally complete content-wise I can breathe again. But alas, everything around me is a mess and I have to catch up before I can write any thoughtful posts. Here are a couple of notes in the mean-time that can’t go without passing:
» Thanks TEV for the mention on your site. I do appreciate it and particularly for taking note that I keep a picture of my kid on my site. With all the reading in aggregators these days, it’s good to know that some people visit sites. Even though I do use an aggregator, (Bloglines), I like to stop at sites for the “visual” experience as well – like Tingle Alley’s rotating banner images, and Nathalie Chicha’s remarkably well designed site, Cup of Chicha.
» Stopped into one of my favorite bookstores today, Gotham Book Mart. They still don’t have their main floor open yet and the result is a very small but pleasant space. It’s an overwhelming task I suppose boxing up hundreds of thousands of books and reshelving them, like a Gomer Pyle nightmare, if he ever read. Anyway, while I was there, I picked up an interesting little gem of a literary journal…
» Sentence, which is on its second issue and is devoted to the prose poem – something I find particularly interesting.
Sentence has as one part of its mission statement to “To continue the discussion about the distinction between the prose poem and “poetic prose” (why is this distinction useful? are there other distinctions to be made?).”
I will try to mention more about this journal as I catch up.
» Lastly, though, I just wanted to say “hats off!” or “cheers!” to Beatrice and Maud for the NYTBR mention. I thought the article did a good job generally with the list, although, I found the inclusion of the defunct MobyLives more than a little odd. It may be a good site, but hey, your only as good as your last post!
