Chekhov's Mistress

On The Rest is Noise

by Bud Parr

Alex Ross’s The Rest is NoiseListening to the 20th Century, is finally out. Ross writes for The New Yorker and has been writing a blog (The Rest is Noise) for a while now. Because of the blog (<— note to authors), I’ve been eagerly awaiting the book. Ross also happens to be on my list of critics who write with ardor instead of irony, which I think is rare today, so I’m happy to do whatever I can to promote his book here, particularly since what he’s writing about – modern classical music – needs this book. I’ll have more in time once I’ve had a chance to delve in.

Here’s a promotional video and also check out Radhika Jones’s “collections” column on Ross.
