Proust on Blogging

by Bud Parr
“The phenomenon of the web-log, a simply banal contraction of the two words, web, referring distinctly to the colloquial term, or more accurately, phrase, world wide web, having at its roots a collection of academic computers, machines that is, through which processing a series of ones and zeros manages somehow to not only calculate fabulously large numbers but text and graphics equally well, joined as these computers once were electronically for the purpose of sharing data, or as it may be more accurately called, information, the distinction being that data denotes say, bits and pieces of words or numbers with little meaning on their own and thus information is the compilation of said data in a meaningful manner for the purpose of enriching one’s knowledge, thus as this sharing of computers grew outside the bounds of academia, the use of the phrase world wide web became appropriate and caught, idiomatic as it may be, on to quotidian usage from the most vaunted members of society to the utterly average consumer, who, as the form developed into a viable method for logging, the second part of the contraction, their thoughts and whims as if in a journal of parchment, in which the most delicate of inks, most likely of an infinite black much like M. Swann’s suits that I can so clearly see in my mind’s eye, could be splashed upon the page at a moments notice and equally be caused to vanish as if ephemeral as an afternoon’s thunderstorm whose briskness reminds one of their minute place in a world where Francoise’s Duck ala Orange brings incomparable delights to the senses, with the effect being more often than not, such rapture as to send one directly to bed for the remainder of the evening and possibly even the next. That is, if my memory serves me.”

Okay, just shoot me, because I apparently have nothing better to do with my time.
