92nd St. Y Literary lectures

One of the things that makes living in New York City a rich life even if you are poor (okay, not too poor) is the 92nd Street Y. They have a great selection of literary and music events that draw celebrated names and an interesting audience. A few coming up this fall are:

The Reading Series

Norman Mailer – Sept. 20th

Isaac Bashevis Singer (with 5 readers) – Oct 4th

Chekhov, a Tribute – Nov 8th

The Critic’s Voice: Harold Bloom – Nov. 29th

The Critic’s Voice: Roberto Calasso on Kafka – Jan 18th

George Bernard Shaw’s “Don Juan in Hell” (one of the readers is Philip Bosco who I’ve seen read and does a great job) – Jan 24th

The Poet’s Theatre: Robert Fagle’s The Rage of Achilles

Jonathan Safran Foer and William T. Vollman – Apr 4th.

Three Classics: Homer, Virgil & Ovid – April 14th

Literary Lectures

Biographers & Brunch Series

Jay Parini on William Faulkner – Nov. 14th

T.J. Binyon on Pushkin – Nov. 28th

Critics & Brunch Series

Edward Mendelson on W.H. Auden – Feb 13th

The 92nd Street Y also offers a host of writing classes and many more opportunities keep those brain cells clicking.
