Roberto Bolaño died in 2003 at the age of 50 but his books are very much alive. Francine Prose writes today about Bolaño’s Last Evenings on Earth in the New York Times. Waggish wrote last year about By Night in Chile, and The Complete Review recently wrote up Distant Star, giving the book a B+ and noting that most reviewers were very impressed. You’ll find links to more Bolaño reviews at the Complete Review and information at New Directions.
I mention this because I just finished Distant Star and was quite impressed myself, having been intrigued by the fact that Pen devoted an entire panel discussion to Bolaño’s work. I’ll write up some of my own thoughts, but I seemed to be collecting so many Bolaño links I had to get them out of my system.
