I must admit, as a vendor on Saturday I was pretty poorly prepared. Despite making list after list of things to do, I arrived at 9:35 a.m. (we were supposed to be set up by 9:30) with no table cloth for my poor barren booth (no banner, no books to sell, just me and my rugelach). Well, Bill at Ocean Press came to my rescue with a nice black cloth. This is the best way I know to say thanks:
Here’s a bit about Ocean Press:
In the world to change the world
Ocean Press is an independent publisher with a unique list of books offering a radical global vision of politics and history with a strong focus on Latin America. Our books are designed to capture the imagination of those who not only believe that another world is possible but who are also actively working toward bringing that world into being. A feature of our titles has been a series of readers of some renowned voices for social justice from the Third World, including Che Guevara, Salvador Allende, José Martí and Fidel Castro.
We have recently initiated two series of books designed to nourish the “new activism” by providing vital information and inspiration from the past in inexpensive, accessible paperbacks for today. The selections sparkle with a contemporary relevance, revealing an astonishing similarity between today’s struggles and those that have gone before.
• RADICAL HISTORY books seek to revive events, struggles and people erased from conventional (and conservative) media and memory. They include eyewitness accounts and historic, forgotten or ignored documents as well as new essays, chronologies and further reading suggestions.
• REBEL LIVES is a fresh new series of inexpensive, accessible and provocative books unearthing the rebel histories of some familiar figures and introducing some lesser known rebels.
CHE GUEVARA PUBLISHING PROJECT
A series of books has been launched by Ocean Press and the Che Guevara Studies Center (Havana) with the objective of disseminating the works and ideas of Ernesto Che Guevara this most contemporary of radical role models. Although perhaps best-known as a guerrilla fighter, this multi-volume series shows Che as a profound thinker with a radical world view, who still strikes a chord with young rebels in every country today. Other features of Ocean Press’s list include several titles exposing the history and exploits of the CIA in Latin America and around the world. We also offer an expanding list of Spanish-language books.
