Chekhov's Mistress

Thanks for asking

by Bud Parr

It’s looking like friends & family week here at Chekhov’s Mistress:

You may have noted from a post I made here and at 400 Windmills this week, that my own little toddler had a stomach virus. While we are still cleaning up, I am happy to report that the little guy…

is getting back to his usual self. Thanks to those that sent their concerns.

(although I just wanted an excuse to share a photo of the latest literature fan in the family. He’s partial to Sandra Boynton as am I.)

Thanks, Bud!

Aw. Very nice. So glad he’s better.

Boynton is surprisingly good. I’m amazed, over all, at how many good little poems (aka children’s board books) I now have memorized. I love those little chains of language. The other day, out of the blue, I heard a little voice say “Littlepiglittlepigletmein.” (A daycare innovation--we hadn’t gotten to that one yet, so this was a surprise.) And then, I hear myself saying “Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin.” Who knew?

What makes Boynton great is her perfect accompaniment of illustration and rhythmic text. Her wit is so dry too. My favorites are “Birthday Monsters,” “But Not the Armadillo,” and “Hippos Go Berserk!”

Doggies. Doggies is wonderful, but you need to be a bit of a ham to do all the different barks.
