Chekhov's Mistress

The Kiss Abandoned

by Bud Parr

I finally gave up the ghost on the old banner image here and with it the Chekhov quote that served as the background. Surprisingly – to me at least – in the year or so that the quote was up, nobody asked what it was. So, I’m just going to tell you anyway, because maybe you’ll want to go read this poignant short story.

When he returned to the drawing-room his heart was palpitating and his hands were trembling so noticeably that he made haste to hide them behind his back. At first he was tormented by shame and dread that the whole drawing-room knew that he had just been kissed and embraced by a woman. He shrunk into himself and looked uneasily about, but as he became convinced that people were dancing and talking as calmly as ever, he gave himself up entirely to the new sensation which he had never experienced before in his life. Something strange was happening to him…

It’s from The Kiss.

I like the new look crisp and clean.

I miss the old but I prefer the new: as Steve said, crisp & clean!

It was a magnificent banner, Bud, and I often wondered what the story was. Should have asked earlier?
