Chekhov's Mistress

The Reading Railroad

by Bud Parr

A few NYC (although one is on the web) Lit events of note:

On Monday, August 2nd…

Swink Magazine holds their reading series, which takes place at Pianos on the first Monday of every even month. Monday’s reading includes Andrew Foster Altschul, the bloggingly famous Maud Newton, and Anthony Tognazzini as they read selections from their work as part of Swink’s reading series at Pianos on the first Monday of every even month.

Pianos is located at 158 Ludlow Street (at Stanton). For directions go to: http://www.pianosnyc.com/drxns.html. Readings begin at 7 PM and are FREE.

With the inclusion of Maud, this post is sure to be superfluous among blogs, but I have read some of the 1st issue of Swink and I think it is a good journal, so worth a mention.

2 readings on Thursday, August 5th:

Toni Morrison and Edward P. Jones (The Known World – ‘04 Pulitzer) read at Central Park Summerstage, Ramsey Playfield (@72nd St).7:30 p.m. Free.

Al Franken & Paul Krugman at B&N 33E. 17th St (Union Square, Brdway/Park Ave), 7p.m.

Funny meets Brilliant.

And if you can’t make it out of the apartment, go to The Paris Review for a web-only interview with Ignacio Padilla “as he discusses his forthcoming story in The Paris Review, the Crack movement in Mexican fiction, and Frida Kahlo.”
