is that they put writers, violinists and other artists right in there with neurobiologists and mathemeticians, recognizing the value of each to society in equal terms. Here’s this year’s list: 2006 MacArthur Fellows.

Great point! Short of the Nobels, there don’t seem to be many interdisciplinary awards that put the arts on the level with other fields.
