Where To Find The Bog People Or How To Do Your Christmas Shopping All At Once

by Bud Parr

Product The New York Review of Books is celebrating their 150th release in the Classics Series and to celebrate they are offering all 150 titles at the discounted price of $1087.67. That’s 50% off of the retail price, folks and just think of the gas or subway money you’ll save not having to shuttle back and forth to the bookstore.

It’s an interesting and eclectic selection and you could probably find something enjoyable at random like The Bog People or The Horse’s Mouth that you might never have heard of. Actually, without even realizing it, I’ve read quite a few of their titles, like Leonardo Sciascia’s The Wine Dark Sea and The Life of Lazarillo de Tormes by an unknown author from the 16th century and said to be the first “picaresque” novel and inspiration for Vanity Fair and Huckleberry Finn.

While buying 150 books all at once might not be too fun, the catalog is worth a perusal and NYRB is also offering titles numbered 151 – 155 at half price too (but I’ll let you surf over their to find out what they are).

And if you’re in NYC, you can attend one of the celebratory readings: tonight at Barnes & Noble or tomorrow at Three Lives and Co. We all know the blogfamous TEV will be there, so you can expect a report (and more) from Mr. Tev himself.

It’s worth it for the Adventures and Misadventures of Maqroll alone.  (Yes, I exaggerate, but the book is really good!)

Ah yes Max, that’s on the TBR list as well as as Adolfo Bioy Casares’ “Invention of Morel.”
